You probably have a million questions about pole dancing and starting pole dance or pole fitness classes! We''ve answered some of them for you in this Frequently Asked Questions page!
Q: WHAT IS POLE FITNESS? IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN POLE DANCING AND POLE FITNESS?
A: Pole Fitness or Pole Dancing is a form of dance and exercise which originated in strip clubs. It involves the use of a vertical, metal pole to perform movement and tricks using only the participant's body. Today, there are as many styles of pole fitness, pole dance, pole art, and pole sport as there are of dance.
Although some studios make the distinction between pole dance and pole fitness, I use them interchangeably, since I consider all dance a form of fitness!
Q: DO I NEED TO BE FIT OR HAVE A DANCE OR FITNESS BACKGROUND TO START POLE? HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM READY?
A: There are no strength, flexibility, or sexiness requirements to start pole! Beginner courses and lessons are designed to help you build up strength and endurance and to teach you how to move and dance around the pole.
If you have an interest in pole dance, then you're ready to start classes!
Q: IS THERE AN AGE RESTRICTION?
A: To attend pole classes you must be age 16+. Under 18s must obtain parent or guardian permission to attend lessons. All Exotic style classes are limited to students aged 18+.
Q: DO I HAVE TO WEAR HEELS AND WEAR SKIMPY OUTFITS? I'M NOT SURE IF I WANT TO DANCE SEXY!
A: Heels aren't a requirement for class (though you're welcome to wear pole-specific heels while you're learning!)
When it comes to clothing, we advise new students to wear a sleeveless top and shorts that stop above the knee for their first lesson. As you progress, you'll find that you need more skin contact with the pole in order to achieve certain moves.
Any sexy or sensual routines and tricks will be taught in classes labeled "Exotic". You can learn more about the specific classes we offer here.
Q: WHAT EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS DO YOU HAVE?
A: Jenny has been poling since 2014 and has certifications in Beginner Pole Fitness and Intermediate Pole Fitness, The Essential Science of Heels from XPERT, Spin City's Stretching and Flexibility and Physiology and Anatomy for Pole and Aerial from Spin City and has been teaching since January of 2019.
Dani is certified in Beginners Pole Fitness from Spin City Instructor Training.
Q: WHAT KIND OF EQUIPMENT DO YOU USE?
A: We have four floor-to-ceiling X-Pole Xpert poles and 1 X-Stage Lite (all 45 mm chrome). I have a small quantity of yoga mats, blocks, and straps at the studio.
Q: DO YOU ALLOW MEN IN YOUR CLASSES?
A: Yes, we do!
Q: OKAY, YOU'VE CONVINCED ME! WHAT DO I WEAR/BRING TO CLASS?
A: Shorts and a vest top are fine. Ideally, the shorts will stop at least a few inches above the knee to expose skin for gripping the pole. A bottle of water is always a good idea for a fitness class, too.
